  • Random Island Stuff

We've had some heavy rain here lately and boulder fell and hit my neighbor's house.  I live in a valley and so we're surrounded on three sides by mountains/hills.  Fortunately there are other houses between me and the hillside so my house should be safe.

Hawaii is pretty warm (duh) but we don't have an air conditioner becaue the trade winds blow almost constantly (though there are times when they go away).  We just leave the windows open and it's fine.  One of the downsides of living in a sub-tropical climate is that there are a lot of critters.  Ants, of course, but we have all these little geckos scurrying about.  Centipides are dangerous.  My wife was bitten on her leg and apparently it hurts.  Her leg swelled up for about a week.

Another thing about Honolulu is that the fire trucks are yellow (which is weird for me because they're red in Chicago).  Some of the trucks have surfboards attached to the side! (I don't know if it's for decoration or if they actually use it to rescue people in the ocean).  Tomorrow, it's going to be in the mid-80's.  How about your area?  (I'm not rubbing it in, I actually prefer cold weather!)

  • i heard there's some snow in pa and oh, the lake effect. it's cold right now, 36, in the suburbs of ny. 80s sound nice, but it just wouldn't be right in november. =)

we have predominantly red firetrucks here, but i've seen a few yellow and couple of whites. they look sort of weird, tho. like the white optimus prime... or ultra magnus. optimus prime should be red. always red.

  • We'll I'm in Chicago and yesterday was cold and windy.  Right now it is a whopping 32 degrees but its supposed to go up to 50.

I think all chicagoans should go to Hawaii!

  • We're getting down into the 40s at night, around 65 in the mornings. Pretty nice, actually...I like a stiff breeze, the scent of Autumn.

Surfboards on the fire trucks, that sounds pretty cool and Hawaii 5-O-ish. Take pictures.

  • we have hot and humid weather ALL DAY! and during this monsoon season, it will rain almost every day.

  • 45 degrees on the mid-Atlantic.

  • Sorry to hear about your wife. hope she is better by now. But let's see... live in a valley, surfboards on fire trucks, 80 degrees... wanna trade?

  • wow a centipede! I lived in Hawaii most of my life and have never been bitten by one. Also Hawaii used to have red fire engines but apparently you can't really seem the too well in the dark? And yes I think they might actually use those surfboards for ocean rescues (of course).

  • hey! welcome to the rock! you can only kill centipedes by squashing them. If you cut them in half, they are still alive and can sting you. geckos are your friends.. they eat other creepy crawlies and keep the cockroaches at bay =).
